An Age-Old American Tradition Come out to the orchard and immerse yourself in the traditional history and process of "Maple Sugaring"—the formal term for making REAL maple syrup. While this tradition is centuries old and typically rooted in Canada and New England, Athol Orchards has perfected the process right here in North Idaho. We are thrilled to share this virtually unheard-of Inland Northwest experience with you!

From Tree to Table: A Live Demonstration During this hands-on workshop, you will go beyond the breakfast table to understand the science and soul behind the syrup. Nikki will guide you through:

  • The History: From its Indigenous origins to the generations of Americans who kept the craft alive.

  • The Science: Learn about the different varieties of Maple trees and why they "run" in the winter.

  • The Harvest: Watch a live demonstration of harvesting maple sap and the fascinating process of boiling it down into liquid gold.

A Sweet Ending We round out our time together sharing one of our favorite North-East activities. It’s a fun, sweet ending to the workshop that is sure to leave you inspired to go searching for your own maple trees to tap!
